Established in 1962, Tansa initially specialized in the design and manufacturing of precision gears, as well as automated mechanical wall pendulum and table clocks. As the second largest mechanical wall clock manufacturer in Europe, Tansa gained recognition for its high-quality products and exports to Switzerland. However, the advent of quartz technology in the 1980s led to the downfall of the mechanical wall clock industry worldwide.
In response to this industry shift, Tansa made the strategic decision to redirect its manufacturing efforts towards the security industry. The company began producing products such as watchman clocks and turnstiles, catering to the evolving needs of the security market. Acknowledging the demands for reliable and robust turnstiles, Tansa carefully observed the requirements of the security industry to develop a turnstile mechanism that would excel in performance and longevity.
Taking a unique approach, Tansa focused on designing and manufacturing a turnstile mechanism from scratch, before investigating other manufacturers' models. This methodology allowed them to avoid repeating any existing issues and ensured the creation of a turnstile mechanism that met the specific needs of the security industry. Leveraging their expertise in fine mechanics, Tansa recognized that while the construction of a turnstile mechanism didn't require the extreme precision of a mechanical clock, it still needed to be functional, easy to install, and serviceable.
