Informação básica

Gland seal systems are crucial components for both main and auxiliary turbines. These systems are designed to ensure that turbine shafts can safely exit their casings and connect with other units such as reduction gears and pumps. The main and auxiliary gland seal systems play a vital role in sealing the turbine, preventing the entry of air while keeping the steam inside the casing.

The primary purpose of a gland seal system is to prevent any leakage of air from the atmosphere into the turbine casing, as well as to prevent the escape of steam from the turbine casing into the atmosphere. To achieve this, the gland sealing system supplies low-pressure steam to the turbine gland located in the final sets of labyrinth packing. This steam assists in creating a seal, effectively preventing air from entering the turbine and maintaining the vacuum in the associated condenser. Any excess pressure is safely removed through the gland seal unloader.

However, it is important to note that there are instances when steam may escape from the seals. To address this, a gland exhaust system is provided to safely release any excess steam and maintain the overall integrity of the gland seal system.
