KASAG Heat Exchanger Systems for Energy Recovery in Wastewater Treatment and Surface Waters

Waste water treatment plants and surface waters hold immense untapped energy potential. For instance, a sewage treatment plant that handles a daily volume of 90 million litres of wastewater can generate a power output of approximately 4.3 MW by simply reducing the wastewater temperature using our heat exchangers by approximately 1°C. The potential for energy recovery from surface waters is even higher.

In the context of environmental impact, it is important to note that human activities have led to a gradual increase in water temperatures in surface waters and streams. This is partly caused by the discharge of treated wastewater. Such temperature elevation has severe consequences for the local flora and fauna. However, by extracting heat from purified water in sewage treatment plants or from surface waters and streams, and consequently reducing the water temperature, we can have a positive impact on the entire ecological system.

With our advanced KASAG heat exchanger systems, we offer a two-fold solution. Firstly, our systems can meet the energy requirements of sewage treatment plants, helping them become self-sufficient in terms of power generation. Secondly, our systems can effectively heat or cool buildings situated in close proximity to the treatment plants. This not only reduces reliance on traditional energy sources but also ensures a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to heating and cooling requirements.
